Quebec has long held a unique place in Canada’s politics, history, and economy. Throughout Canadian history, there has been a divide between Anglophones and Francophones. The province of Quebec is the only province where French is the predominant language. This has historically led to many attempts, intentionally or unintentionally, by the rest of Canada to assimilate Quebec. There is a significant divide within Quebec’s political landscape: those who support Quebec’s independence and those who do not.
