Rachel Lynn Solomon’s Today Tonight Tomorrow addresses the problem of how someone’s unusual/mysterious origins shape how people view them, for better or worse. The novel shows that even a difficult past can lead to unexpected relationships.

The main character of Today Tonight Tomorrow is Rowan Roth, however, I'll be focusing on Neil McNair. Neil's character is introduced on the first page, through a text message. His name is saved as “McNIGHTMARE” on Rowan’s phone. He messages, “three (3) hours and counting before suffering a humiliating defeat” (Soloman 1). With that, we get a summary of how they met. However, our first interaction with this character was when Rowan got to school. Neil, helping the office staff, took great humor in the fact Rowan came to school late on the last day of school. Breaking her perfect attendance record. There is a contrast and contradiction moment later on in the book when we find out Neil didn't mark her as late. Shocking Rowan and making her rethink her initial thoughts of Neil. Rowan didn't ever seem to think twice about Neil's personal life until one of his friends told her that Neil might not come to an event because of an emergency with his sister. This is when the mysterious/unusual part comes in. For starters, Rowan didn't know Neil had any siblings. She assumed he was an only child like herself. Sean, who told Rowan that Neil would be gone, said, “He’s [Neil].not the most forthcoming about his personal life” (Solomon 103). Neil's friends then go on to say
