Canada is considered to be one of the most multicultural countries in the world; having welcomed a total of 15 million immigrants. In fact, in Toronto and Vancouver, over half the population consists of visible minorities, yet segregation and discrimination does not occur as it does in other parts of the world. Even though immigrants tend to settle in their own neighbourhood pockets, Canadian society is so welcoming that unlike in other countries, immigrants tend to assimilate in Canadian society. Canada has even developed a national policy on multiculturalism for immigrants to ensure their customs and beliefs are preserved and respected. Canadians are proud that their society is so loving and welcoming, and that their society consists of so many different cultures, traditions, and beliefs. The diversity has made Canadians more aware and sensitive to the needs of other peoples around the world. Canada’s compassionate refuge system is evidenced in its welcoming of displaced Syrians. Canada is accepting over 50 000 migrants and many social safety nets are being put in place to help them. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been set aside to provide these refugees with basic necessities and the tools to build a better future. Unlike most other developed countries, Canada does not heavily rely on its well diversified industries, it is also one of the world’s leading countries in natural resources. Many Canadians are proud of the multitude of resources their land provides, as well as the many industries that are available to citizens. In addition, Canadians are proud of their country because they are on the forefront of international trade, spearheading many world economic organizations. The Canadian Trade Commissioner reports that many countries expand into Canada because of its strong growth record; it has led all G-7 countries in economic growth over the past decade. This factor proves that Canada’s economy keeps on growing and becoming more prosperous. Moreover, Canada’s strong economy has led to many diverse job opportunities for students.
