With technology advancing every day, it should be apparent that the day may be coming when each of us are able to be tracked from a database. Radio Frequency Identification or RFID chips have been around for a few decades, however there is now talk of them being implanted into humans. To no surprise, different sides developed pointing out the advantages and disadvantages to an identification chip being put into humans. Not only that, but something much darker emerged; the conspiracy that the RFID chip is “The Mark of the Beast”. For starters, a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip is a tiny microchip that can hold up to 2,000 bites of data. (Ketler) The chip works by using a tag to transmit the identity of anything to a database. (Anderson) …show more content…
To begin with, Anderson also points out the disadvantages within her academic article that it is highly invasive in reference to one’s privacy. Anderson mentions that “ Chips read by unauthorized readers could allow sensitive information such as credit card numbers and medical histories to become readily available.” Therefore, it is clear that any piece of technology can be hacked and it is inevitable, so if one were to hack an individual’s RFID chip, it would cause much damage to their privacy. Previously mentioned, Alanna Ketler concurs with Anderson’s statements of privacy invasions and hacking possibilities, but also adds more risks related to one’s health. For example, with the RFID chips being directly in our bodies at all times, the radio frequencies may lead to …show more content…
Religious conspiracy theorists believe that the implantation of the RFID chip, as told in the Book of Revelation, is the Mark of the Beast. Within the Bible’s Book of Revelation it states “And he causes all… to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their forehead…If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark… the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God.” (Viljoen) Due to the RFID chip actually being inserted into humans, many religious conspiracy theorists believe that it goes hand in hand with how the “Mark” is described in the bible. In addition, this conspiracy is extended by some even believing that all humans will be forced to accept an implant; in other words, the Mark of the Beast. Jon Austin elaborates on this in his news article detailing how religious conspiracy theorists believe that a RFID implant is how Satan will control everyone on Earth. Austin references a website titled NowTheEndBegins.com in which it states “The day is coming where you will be forced to have a chip put inside your body. When that day comes, you will know who the Antichrist is because he will be the one in power over the whole world.” Therefore, these conspirists believe that if you accept the chip then you are against God and are a servant of
