As a radiology technician, being able to see in the human body to successfully diagnose pathology is our top priority. Without the advancements in technology that have already been made, producing quality work would be a challenge. The ongoing progression in the technology world, will only continue to benefit my profession significantly. Diagnostic imaging in the medical field has evolved a tremendous amount since the first discovery of x-rays in 1895. Wilhelm Rontgen is the man responsible for this phenomenal discovery that have helped save countless lives. While experimenting with a cathode ray tube, Rontgen took all the air out of the tube and passed high amounts of current through it. After covering the tube with a black paper, he could see a fluorescent glow. Also realized this light that was able to pass through skin, flesh, bones, and many other materials. …show more content…
They lacked the knowledge of what it was and how it affected the human body. They would hold still until the skin would turn red for radiation. Both Roentgen and his wife later died of cancer from all the radiation exposure. Since than the concept of the x-ray has evolved and so has the understanding of dangers that come with it. Now diagnostic imaging has expanded from basic diagnostic x-ray, into fluoroscopy, computed tomography, MRI and ultrasound. The purpose of diagnostic imaging is to be able to look through your body and be able to see any pathological conditions, disease, broken bones. When a doctor needs to see more in depth information, they will suggest a different type of radiological approach. The evolution of radiation has allow us to treat and cure disease such as cancer with radiation
