“Ralph stirred uneasily. Simon, sitting between between the twins and Piggy, wiped his mouth and shoved his piece of meat over the rocks to Piggy, who grabbed it. The twins giggled and Simon lowered his face in shame” (Golding 74). None of the boys would give Piggy any food but Simon did. This scene in the book just proves why Simon has great morals and is the nice guy in this type of situation. Ralph and Jack make fun of him because he is being nice and sharing food. Something that they wouldn’t do. Next, Simon is one that sticks to himself so, it came as a surprise when he admitted that he was the one in the forest at night. “Then Simon stood up and Ralph looked at him in astonishment. ‘...Well, don’t do it again. Understand? Not at night. There’s enough silly talk about beasts, without the littluns seeing you gliding about like a--’ The derisive laughter that rose had fear in it and condemnation” (Golding 85-86). Simon, being the innocent little boy he is, is very scared to rise up and own up to what he did. This arises tension because the boys start to become more and more suspicious of Simon just because he doesn’t have the morals that the other boys
