By staying in college, it secures their future of the athlete by allowing the athlete to finish their education and earn a college degree. Not everyone who pursues a professional career as an athlete makes it. If they struggle to perform at the level of a professional athlete, they will have no foundation to fall back on. Also, the injury rate in a professional sport is much higher than the risk of injury in college. If athletes did get injured and they were still in college, then they could focus on their studies while they are recovering from their injury instead of sitting around and doing nothing that could benefit their future. He did make the NFL, but in his 5th NFL game he injured his hip, and his football career was unfortunately over. Ramogi had a long and depressing recovery period. Ramogi would never be the same. However, along with this depression came a sense of relief. Ramogi had a college business degree to fall back on because he stayed in school all four years Ramogi was relieved that he had gotten a degree in business because he was able to go back to school and receive his Master’s degree in Business just 2 years after his career ending injury. Another athlete who injury in professional sports that ended their career is Brandon Roy. Brandon injured his right knee in a NFL game, just before his 29th birthday. This injury didn’t see as tragic or depressing, until he went to get an MRI done, and found out that his knee injury was much more serious then he thought. Brandon’s injury ended his career. Brandon was devastated and didn’t know what to do. Unfortunately, unlike, Ramoji, Brandon had nothing to fall back on.
