If a patient’s TB does not respond to first-line antibiotics, than he/she has a TB that is drug resistant. When having TB you must follow a strict medical procedure. If you were to slip up by skipping taking your medicine it can lead to the TD bacteria inside the body to become resistant to the TD first-line antibiotics. Mycobacterium tuberculosis can evolve resistance to first or second-line antibiotics by being exposed to medication or drugs. Being exposed to drugs can result in changes in the its metabolic state, and thus help cause it to be more resilient to first or second-line antibiotics.
