Considering the amount of technology we endure today, I believe that teaching computer science is essential. In Georgia schools, computer science is often offered to students of mature ages. The controversy about teaching computer science in schools is becoming extremely relevant as technology continues to advance; for this reason, computer science is important. New technologies and electronics will require the skills needed to operate it properly. In the article, “Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, and Lately Coding”, the author argues that “Computer programming should be taught in every school, said Hadi Partovi, the founder of Code.org and a former executive at Microsoft. He called it as essential as “learning about gravity or molecules, electricity or photosynthesis”. I agree with this statement. When computer science is taught, all students will have the opportunity to learn how to navigate through the programs on the computer. In the passage from “Cutting Through the Hype”, the author states “Using high-tech tools on a daily basis in classrooms is expected to end student boredom, open up a world of information, prepare students for the workplace, and transform teaching- problems that have plagued schools for a century”. Computer science is believed to benefit students and teachers in the classroom.
