Early on, Diana is the leader of the group in Alexandria before Rick and his group ever arrive. When Rick arrives, conflict occurs between the two, due to opposite ideas on how to run the community. Diana is concerned about bringing the community together and finding more people so that they can grow, expand, and develop. She also believes in a “non-violent” society where alliances would be ideal. She is also a firm believer in peacemaking and giving people chances. On the other hand, Rick is a hardcore realist. Rick simply wants to be the hegemonic factor of the group. Rick understands the reality of world outside the gates of Alexandria and everything you do is about survival. He believes that you must take affirmative action in order to ensure safety and prosperity among the group. Another way that Rick is a realist is when he says, “I know this sounds insane, but this is an insane world.We have to come for them before they come for us, it's that simple” (Rick Grimes). These worlds are extremely realistic because realists have to act first in order to obtain the most power. They do not take chances with anything or anyone for the fear of losing power.
