You can see different traditions being performed throughout the movie. For example, Danny and Reuven attend a wedding with danny’s family. The whole Hasidic community was there and sang traditional songs and danced. The couple stood under the Huppa as they were married, just like everyone else in the community. Also, it was tradition for the Rabbi’s son to become Rabbi. Danny was supposed to become Rabbi, but broke the tradition when he became a psychologist. Even though not all the traditions were kept, they still played a huge role in the movie. Faith, tradition, and family are important in our everyday lives and the lives of those in the movie, The Chosen.

The Chosen is quite an literal title. Danny Saunders is the chosen man to become Rabbi after his father passes. He is next in line to take the role of rabbi. He is the chosen, yet he doesn’t want to be. Danny wants to be a psychologist, not a rabbi. Ironically, Reuven becomes a rabbi. Also, Reuven's father feels as if he is the chosen person who must get across the message of a state of Israel. Mr. Malter feels as though it’s his duty to make sure the Jewish nation comes to be. Many characters in the movie feel as if they are “chosen” for a role, which correlates in the title.
