Rebecca Solinsky, a breast cancer survivor, is one of the longest breast cancer survivors. Jeanette VanHorn, daughter of Rebecca Solinsky, was only 7 when her mother was diagnosed with the disease. At the time, breast cancer wasn't a common subject. There weren't any support groups, breast cancer awareness symbols or breast cancer fundraisers. After a radical mastectomy, VanHorn was told that her mother had arm problems. No one had knowledge of breast cancer but they were still able to remove one of Solinsky's breasts, lymph nodes and a portion of her arm muscle. Solinsky, now 89 years old, remains cancer free.
