In The Reconstruction Era the black’s had no respect. For example, one black wanted a hotel room but was denied just because of his race. Also the blacks would beaten senseless in public. They were never even aloud to do something fun like theater. To stop the violence the government sent soldiers down south to stop violence down south. This didn’t this didn’t stop the south because they just did it in public. The black kids wouldn't’t even be to go to school.

What the 14 amendment did was it gave legal rights to the blacks. Now black can’t be counted out just because of their color. Now a black could get a job easier and a black kid could go to school easier. If white man was caught doing this they would be charge for money let the black for them anyways. Another thing a black couldn’t have was their own property and because of the 14 amendment.
Even with the 14 amendment passed the blacks still weren’t getting enough freedom. The blacks also wanted the right to vote. What the government did is they passed the civil rights act. What this did was this did was exactly what the black wanted and gave them the right to vote. This in turn made the blacks have a little more powerful and fight the whites. After that the whites couldn’t take it anymore and the blacks finally got their freedom.
We were to compare now with then the blacks are definitely are more respected. The one downside to that is that they will sometime use that against us whites. For example, not that long ago their was a black sent to prison for murder and was sentenced to jail and it was totally fair but he kept on saying “It’s because i’m black isn’t it.” When he said that they put into trial again and he got a few years less years in prison.
