In the bottom of the second inning, Big Papi took a walk and Hanley sent one over the fence of right center field, in admittedly Ortiz fashion. In fact, the home run was eriely similar to Ortiz’s game tying grand slam in the 2013 ALCS, a now iconic scene held in the hearts of Sox fans. The home run had all the bells and whistles from a right fielder tumbling over the fence to an inspired police officer raising his fists in triumph as the Sox scored.
Ramirez’s second homer in the third inning was a bit more unexpected. Hanley only had eight home runs on the entire SEASON prior to tonights game, therefore no one bet that he would hit another one in the same game. He had two diving plays in the top of the first inning, one a groundout and one a lineout.
