An ecological footprint is the impact of a person on the environment, shown as the amount of land required to sustain their use of natural resources. The average Canadian ecological footprint is about 7 hectares. My ecological footprint is 6.86 hectares, which is just under the average.
The 2 areas where my ecological footprint was high was in food and transportation. The reason it was high in food is because of my food choices. One big reason being the amount of meat I eat. Another reason being that most the food I eat isn't organic and is processed. Transportation is high because for one every driver in my house has a car, which isn't needed. Also, there is no point in traveling in a van on a typical …show more content…
The reasons food is a big percentage of my ecological footprint is because of my food choices, as explained in the last paragraph. To put my idea into a simple sentence, it would be to change my diet. The first way I'm going to change my diet is by the amount of meat I eat. So I'm going to start by only eating meat at least once a week. After some time, I'm going to eat it 3-4 times a month and eat less from there on out. This will bring down my ecological footprint because meat has a big effect. Did you know that your average meat serving takes about 17 000 liters of water? There is also all the methane going in the air from all those animals. So my water and carbon ecological footprint will go down. Another thing I am going to change from my diet is the fruits and vegetables. I’m going to be eating more so I'm going to try and find some that are locally grown and organic foods. I will also eat less processed foods. I guess since processed food is easier to get to most people eat it more often. But I am going to try and stay away from that. This will bring down the carbon part of my eco footprint. Because if the food is packaged it was more than likely transported
