Unfortunately, I remember the first day being pretty rough. I was very nervous because I wanted to do well and practice the skills I had learned in class. But I will always remember how upset I was with myself when I was unable to take a patient’s blood pressure manually. After that point, I told myself I had to do better.

I learned a lot about nursing diagnosis and nursing interventions from doing the reflections and care plans.
By the end, I noticed it was a lot easier for me to understand why patients were on certain medications and why certain lab levels were relevant to the patients’ diagnoses. I was able to figure things out on my own and found it really helpful reading the nursing and physicians notes when doing the care plan. I found myself to be asking less questions because I knew how to answer them myself.
Overall, I would say this first clinical experience was difficult for me. The procedures and skills done in the hospital can be different from what we’ve learned and seen inside a class or textbook. This clinical experience made me realize there are still a lot of skills I need to work on and learn about before I become a nurse. Because this was a difficult semester, I certainly expect myself to improve next time. Most of all, I will never forget the head to toe assessment. By this time, it is embedded into my mind. I cannot wait to experience and learn more in clinical next
