CRNA stands for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and who are basically an advanced practice registered nurse or (APRN) with more graduate level education while also obtaining a board certification in anesthesia (Matsusaki&Sakai, 2011). CRNAs are involved with their patients’ health before surgery by teaching preoperative care; which includes asking questions concerning their medical history, performing physical assessment to determine the type of anesthesia which will work best for the patient. Also, they make sure the patient clearly understands what is going to happen moving forward and answer any questions they may have about the anesthesia given to them. The support and care from these nurses helps the patient to become more relaxed which can change their whole outlook on the procedure. During surgery they provide anesthesia to control their pain level to make sure they are relaxed and free of pain while also monitoring their vital functions. After surgery the CRNAs makes sure the patient is stable and takes them to the recover where they are transferred to a post- anesthesia care unit nurse who then takes over. CRNAs are technically anesthesia specialist; but they play a more important role because they take care of the patient before and after surgical procedures. William T.G.
