Diaz-Rodriguez et al. (2011) tested the immediate effects of Reiki on heart rate, cortisol, and body temperature in health-care professionals diagnosed with burnout syndrome, and found a significant relaxation reaction in heart-rate variability, increase in body temperature, and reduced sympathetic response. (2018) aimed to identify the feelings experienced by nurses working at the Family Health Strategies after receiving Reiki application. The subjects were eight nurses working at the Family Health Strategy in northern Rio Grande de Sul. The nurses were submitted to three sessions of Reiki and thereafter interviewed using a semi-structured questionnaire containing open and closed questions. I think about myself and become more calm, relaxed, peaceful, and reflective. In the daily routine of a nurse, there is a tremendous amount of rush and not much time to think about the self. Reiki allows me a moment to meet with myself. It reminds me that I am full of light and love, and that I have the power to overcome any fears, anxieties, and insecurities. After practicing self-Reiki, I feel more ready to conquer any challenges I may face in the pediatric ICU. Witnessing the suffering of young children and their families is truly difficult, but I know I am becoming a more resilient and empowered nurse from it. Reiki helps me to move along on the journey. It truly is a supporting tool that benefits the work process, and there is a plethora of research to prove it. I wholeheartedly agree with the notion that Reiki enables the nursing professional to maintain mental clarity and emotional stability, thus performing his or her work in the best way possible (Freitag et al., 2018, p.
