Reliant Orthopedics Case Analysis The case study of Reliant Orthopedics identifies two different styles of leadership. Top - Down Management which provides crystal clear expectations for what needs to be done, when it should be done, and how it should be done. This style can be essential to the success of a project with tight deadlines or involving multiple departments that require a centralized form of leadership. However, in recent years, this style has been viewed as less favorable. Team-Based Management is an approach that seeks the input of multiple stakeholders in the decision making process, although the final decision falls on the business owner and key employees. This style is useful when exploring new opportunities that don’t have tight deadlines; however with so many stakeholders involved in the decision-making process, the assignment of roles can sometimes create ambiguity. Reliant Orthopedics is dominating the region in treatment and service rendered, however now that there are two leaders working together, they must present a united front for the benefit of the organization, stakeholders, while avoiding conflict. Management styles play a major in the success or failure of an organization. Top - down leadership or team – based leadership? Sometimes your situation will dictate your strategy. There is no single leadership style that fits, but should be tailored to fit the culture of the organization, the needs of the patients and stakeholders. Given Sam Denton’s background and the number of years that he has executed as a top down leader, he will have to understand the difference between leading and managing and separate the two in order to have a successful, productive meeting with Jim Reece that will be a win – win for everyone involved.
