Chapter 15 was on religion which i was excited for. Cults were the first thing that caught my attention. Apparently a cult is not necessarily sacrificing lamb in the name of satan like movies want us to think. Most religions start of as cults. Many people use the word cult to associate with new religions. NRM’s (New religious movements) Sects are the next thing that interested me because, i was raised baptist and i didn't really understand what these denominations were. I knew they were different when i was younger but, the term sect never occurred to me. Polytheism is the worship of many gods like Greeks or Romans. So the story of Buddhism is interesting. Siddhartha decided he was going to reach enlightenment by sitting under a fig tree. He became the “enlightened one”. Confucianism was more of a social system because it taught people how to treat each other. Taoism was all about inner peace and harmony. This religion focused on on the spiritual level of things. Christianity is the largest religion in the world. Originating in Palestine two thousand year ago Jesus taught his followers about treating people like you would want to be treated yourself, The main difference between christianity and the other religions that use the bible as the main text is if Jesus was God’s son or not. Christianity believes that Jesus was indeed God’s son on the other hand the Jewish people believe that Jesus was a prophet. A megachurch is “ a Christian church that has a very large congregation averaging more than 2,000 people who attend regular weekly services.” The largest megachurch in the United states as of 2009 in in Houston Texas with an average attendance of forty three
