In the movie, Desert flower is Waris the main character and she came from Somalia were the culture is to circumcise girls. If the girls don’t get circumcised, they are “unclean” and people will look at you as a prostitute. When she was three her mother took her to get circumcise is changed her life. In the culture, they think it’s normal to be circumcised because it is a “tradition” that has been going on for almost 1000 years. In the culture forced marriage is also normal. forced marriage is normal in Somalia because is an easy way to get money to the family.
