We use our brainstem and thalamus to determine if we the information being processed is important or not. Our attention is very selective therefore we remember concepts, objects and events etc, we want to remember. We use attention to eliminate distractions to focus and memorize what is important to use. Willngham illustrates "...We remember things that bring about some emotional reaction"(Willingham, 59). This is an example of how we use our sensory memory to select what draws our attention such as emotion/feeling. In our lecture it is mentioned emotion/feeling is part of the 5 senses of sensory memory.

Willngham illustrates during the process of learning new information, we use repeption the most to learn and process information. Willngame states" Material may be repeated almost indefintley and still not stick in your memory"(Willngham,60). It preps us for the new information we will be processing and understanding. The expert brain is when the knowledge is being elaborated and connected to information we already know. An example of novice is a school setting, in Kindergarten we learn the alphabets, syllabulus, vowels and consenants. During this grade, we learn and are informed of the basic concepts of literature. Therefore why Kindergarten, there is allowed a lot of room for mistakes, because we are evolving from toddlerhood stage. Another example of expert brain is also the school setting but a different grade. In 3rd grade we already know the basics of literature and have memorized all the rules. Therefore we are required to learn and memorize how to write essays. We must be understand the concepts of an essay. We combine what we already know from our past grades, to elaborate more on
