Although someone’s reputation is the first thing acknowledged about them, that is not the most valuable thing about them, especially in a place as corrupt as the justice system. Known as a place that is bursting with racism and prejudice, there is nothing more swaying than someone’s looks. As represented in the book “Just Mercy” and in real life, there have been many instances in which a person’s reputation is disregarded because of the way they look, showing how much more important someone’s appearance is. In the book, Bryan Stevenson mentions numerous stories of his own and others' experience when facing the justice system. The police even encouraged him to continue lying and tried to give him ideas to push an agenda that would harm an innocent Black man. This shows how incapable the justice system is to do the right thing when it comes to someone’s appearance. There have been many examples in history of how the justice system has treated people of color, but specifically Black men, unfairly. Although some people may say that times have changed and there is more justice for Black men being brought into the justice system, there have been many instances where this has been disproven. Such as the unfair case of George Floyd, an innocent man killed by an oppressive and discriminatory institution we call the justice system, who was trying to live a normal and peaceful life. Even when there were riots trying to get him justice, the people who are paid to protect citizens like him were nowhere to be seen. He is not the only person who has faced such violation, and will not be the last, nonetheless he is a part of the few who was able to get support from outside sources, none relating to any court, police, or person of
