CURRENT CEO PROFILE Jeff Bezos is the founder and current CEO of Amazon.com. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Princeton University, graduating in 1986. After this he worked on Wall Street for D. E. Shaw & Co. It was here that he discovered that Web usage had a projected growth of 2300% and came up with the idea to start an online company, with book sales being the objective. His parents provided most of their life savings for startup capital with a 70-90 percent chance of losing their investment. Hundreds, if not thousands, of articles are written on Mr. Bezos with showing varying business styles and favorite quotes and phrases, but in a direct email quote Mr. Bezos states that although he has several favorite quotes, one is “Point of view is worth 80 IQ points.” –Alan Kay and that his business style reflects “The three big ideas at Amazon: customer obsession, invent, think long term”.

HISTORY OF AMAZON Amazon began in 1994 in the garage of Jeff Bezos, with a capital investment of $300,000. An online bookstore that started with a dozen people packing book orders late into the night. Orders came in by the thousands from across the country creating the need for expansion, which in turn had investors coming forth by 1995. By 1996 Amazon reported $15.7 million dollars in revenue and made the decision to go public with shares. Shares closed at 23.5, a 30% increase over the projected $18 that underwriters had set the prior night.
By 2011 Amazon reported 48.08 billion in revenue and now has a projected 57.26 billion for 2012. As of 2012 Amazon is ranked 56 on the Fortune 500 list and is now ranked Number 3 on the Fortune 50 list. This shows why Amazon is ranked 4th in revenue growth over 10 year period.
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Amazon proudly works to continuously improve on ways to reduce negative impact on the environment and donating to local community food banks and schools, funding disaster relief programs and striving to provide job placements for thousands of veterans. All employees are encouraged to participate in these programs. This has become a vital part of their Corporate Social Responsibility and it continues to grow annually.
