Antony Gormley (Artist Research Paper) Antony Gormley is a famous British sculptor, he is widely known for his sculptures, installation and public artworks that explore the relationship of the human body to space. The human figure has been the prevailing theme in Gormley's work since the 1980s, since then he has been using many different materials like lead, wood, rock, iron and many more to create a shape that looks like a human figure or something similar but not exactly the same; not only he is using different materials, but he also makes each of them uniquely, he doesn’t create the same human figure again and again, the shape could be vague, or it can be detail. And he tries to implant us the think of how the body relates to the space in which it finds itself. Gormley when creating a human figure statue, he says that, he sees his sculpture is a space or a place and not an object, he describes his work as a living human has been stopped in movement and fixed by a mold or a material, finding a place of reconciliation between the space or a displaced place of a human body and the built space. It is not a very comforting domestic object, he said, they have the association of an industrial installation rather than a kind of installation in an art museum. He sees that the human cubic shape he made is a space of darkness and the reference to a body but it’s a body that has been inflated. He finds himself interested and curious about the dialogue
