I think that the point Epictetus is making in this quote is similar to what he was talking about in the last question. Seeing the better in people is the best way to live life in Epictetus’ and my personal opinion. I think what he is trying to say is that you never truly know what people’s expectations are. People often think that their own expectations are universal. Therefore they believe that they treat people they way they want to be treated. Seems logical right? It is the golden rule isn’t it? I do not think that that is always relevant however. People want to be treated how they want to be treated, not how you think they want to be treated. Maybe someone treats you in a way that you think is bad. Maybe the person who treated you this way was deceived, and had no idea that you felt this way at all. This is why we need to assume that others’ intentions are nothing but the
