Crabbe: How would you survive in the woods without experience? Franklin Crabbe did just that. A Canadian writer, William Bells Crabbe, is a selfish, semi-alcoholic, hot-headed, pressured teen who is sick of society and runs away to grow and become a mature adult. Franklin Crabbe, or Crabbe, is an 18-year-old teen who does nothing but what his parents' best wishes are and has everything done by his assistants, maids, and butlers. When Crabbe gets sick of it all, he runs away to learn skills independently, adjust his body and mind to mature, and learn to communicate with his parents.

Firstly, a few of Crabbe's important survival skills are navigating, gathering food, and making a shelter. Crabbe was out in the middle of nowhere and was told by Mary to find his way back to camp with only a compass: “Well, today you prove that compassing is one of your many accomplishments” (Bell 85). Crabbe is told to find his way back to camp in a new area of the forest that he has not seen and to get back with his knowledge and skill of a compass.

Nightlines are used for catching fish while being occupied doing anything else; they could also be used for catching other animals in lakes or oceans, along with nightlines. Crabbe also learns how to use snares. Snares are the catch for smaller animals like rabbits, and there are a variety of ways you can use
