The Haiti Earthquake was an earthquake that impacted about 3 million people. The earthquake happened on the island of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. It affected mostly Haiti, but also affected those in the Dominican Republic. This event was one of a kind because the last earthquake to strike the area was in the 18th century and it never reached the magnitude of the one in 2010. And the island was still recovering from two back-to-back hurricanes that ran through there in 2008. Furthermore, “[the] official count was more than 300,000 [people],” (Britannica) The country was left in ruin as the earthquake covered almost the whole island. It took almost $11.3 billion to rebuild the island back to what it was before. This earthquake was one of the most devastating earthquakes in history, and there are many ways that everyone can help.

During the earthquake, the residents were not warned about the incoming quake. No one was able to get to safety. Many organizations have expressed concern over this fact. And this proves that they need a warning system. A German organization has already been working on a better warning system. “In future, twelve powerful electronic sirens made and supplied by HRMANN Warnsysteme will warn people in good time and reliably of natural disasters,” (Prevention Web). And as much as we need a big siren warning system, the people could also benefit from a message that will come up on their phones and electronic devices. As most people will have an electronic device around them, it will be easier for them to find out about the natural disaster before anything even happens.
