Abstract
Horseracing is one of the earliest sports that originated from Central Asia. In the UK, it has dated back from the 12th century when English Knights returned from crusades with Arab horses which were bred with English horses that produced the Thoroughbred, which is the breed of horse used in horseracing today. It is now recognised as the second most popular sport in the world, football being the first and from 2006, 1391 fixtures have been programmed, providing over 9,000 races. 9,500 racehorse owners and 50,000 people are involved in racehorse ownership through various types of co-ownership. The total prize money reached a total of a record £101.3m in 2004. Over 14,000 horses are in training and over 90,000 runs in a year. 6 …show more content…
