A discourse community is a group of people who share a set of discourses, understood as basic values and assumptions, and ways of communicating about those goals. It has a broadly agreed set of common public goals. The individuals in the group have the same goal for the benefit of a larger community. For example, the lady’s volleyball team makes it to national’s, in order to win the tournament each young lady must give an equal amount of effort, everyone should have the same mentality and they should all work together as a team. A discourse community has mechanisms of intercommunication among their members such as texts, phone calls, emails and group meetings. A discourse community uses its participatory mechanisms primarily to provide information and feedback, it creates communications that enhance or bring about their group goal. Including formal assignments, inside and outside class meetings, emails from leaders, dinners, and what have you. The group organizes the occupants of the dormitory. I’ve done my research about RA’s responsibilities and came across an article that stated the residential assistant position carries diverse and sometimes ambiguous responsibilities.
