Shaniya Cook Mr.Virgone Honors World Culture 20 March 2024 Resistance New Imperialism relies on new industrial tools like medicine, transportation, communication systems, and weapons. Since the Europeans had big imperial power, they believed it was right to rule over people they thought were lower ranked or weaker. People who were colonized and titled as weak, had to endure racism, violence, and cultural theft. These colonists resisted their oppressions successfully by running away, violence, and making life more difficult for them. Since the French had a big rat problem, they offered to pay locals to kill the rats. But, instead of actually killing the rats, the people of Hanoi tricked them and made them have an even bigger rat problem. According to the document, “The locals began to just clip their tails off of live rats, and release them back into the sewers to breed. ” This resistance was successful because the locals made a lot of money even though they didn’t finish their job. This made it too much for the French to handle and allowed others to flee and escape. The last example of a successful resistance movement is the French education in Indochina backfiring. The French education helped make it easier for colonized people to escape by fleeing into the hills where the French had trouble reaching.
