“ Response to Executive Order 9066”
Analyzing “Response to Executive Order 9066” was in the era of World War 2 which in response the President Nixon wanted to isolate all Japanese descent just in case they wanted to retaliate against other Americans. Ms. Ozawa wrote back to the Relocation center to trying to explained that she feels more American than Japanese. She is explaining that she feels funny using chopsticks and likes hot dogs. She also emphasis that her best friend Denise is a White female and even though they are different. Ozawa and Denise had to say goodbye to each other because they were getting separated because Ozawa was getting send to the Relocation Center because she was a Japanese descent.
“Mericans”
Furthermore, while reading “Mericans” is a cultural shock among the Mexican culture and the Chicano Culture. Both little girls wanted to be part of a culture even though they had 2 different nationalities and are minorities. One story took place during the World War 2. The other story was in Mexico while celebrating the “Virgin Mary”. Ms. Ozawa wanted to prove that she was an American because of the things that she enjoyed eating. Ms. Micaela wanted to play Mexican games because she felt closer to the Mexican Culture rather than being American.
Also, both girls were suppressed by a male figure. The President Nixon put the executive order to separate the Japanese descended. Ms. Ozawa was separated from her friend Denise which Denise was brainwashed and said for her to “keep her mouth shut”. The same way Micaela was not able to play or express her feelings because she was afraid of her brothers retaliation and not wanted to play with her any
