I chose to respond to the poem “We Real Cool” by Gwendolyn Brooks for this week’s discussion post. The authors level of diction is somewhere between vulgate and colloquial. This level of diction is used to further convey the level of education of the speaker and back up “Left School. We” (2). After leaving school to stay out late and party much like what is described in this poem; one would not expect the best use of the English language. The words of Brooks poem are arranged in an order that is almost hard to read such as line three which says “Lurk Late. We,” is able to be understood, but is not in normal syntax.
