There are three main facts which are used to prove that the Resurrection is historically accurate. These truths are so strongly supported that even scholars that are strongly against religion agree to them. These evidences create a very strong case for the historicity of Jesus’ resurrection.
The Empty Tomb
The tomb where Jesus was taken was discovered empty by a few women on the Third day after the crucifixion. What can prove this statement? Two arguments can be made concerning this question. Firstly, the disciples began preaching the resurrection message in Jerusalem, the same city where Jesus had just been killed and buried in. This would not have been possible if Jesus’ body was still in the tomb. …show more content…
The Trilemma is based on a C.S Lewis argument and was formulated by Josh McDowell. It states that Jesus was either a Liar, a Lunatic, or the true Lord. Jesus was most certainly not a Liar, because that would mean he made a deliberate misrepresentation of who he was for his entire ministry. If Jesus was a liar, he was also a hypocrite. If he was a hypocrite, then he was truly sinful, and it would not make sense that he would die for his fake life. With this information, then entire argument that Jesus deliberately lied about being the Son of God falls apart. On the other hand, if Jesus was a lunatic, then why did his teachings accomplish so much good? Jesus did not show any abnormalities that a lunatic would exhibit. The only possible option then, is that Jesus is Lord and has always been …show more content…
The resurrection could be argued as one of the most important truths in Christianity. Paul, in his letter to Corinth, states, “…if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain.” The resurrection proves that Jesus was truly the Son of God, sent to suffer in place of the human race. If Jesus was the Son of God, then his lessons, actions, and authority are completely validated. Jesus being risen from the dead makes him the only religious leader to do so. Many other religions have similar stories to Christianity, but because of Christ’s resurrection, Christianity is set apart. Dr. William Craig expands on this in a recorded debate. He says that Christianity is set apart because it is not just a system of morals and deities, but also includes real people and events that can be proven by external primary sources and archeological findings. Also, the resurrection provides a hope for an eternal life with God in Heaven. As Jesus stated, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, except through me" By putting faith in Jesus, one can be forgiven of sins and not be condemned. Because of the Resurrection, Christians have a solid foundation that Jesus was the Son of God, who died and rose
