Three main categories were identified as important in cancer survivor’s experiences of returning to work which include individual capacities, nature of disease and support system.
Individual capacities: individual capacities have an important role in cancer survivor’s decision of returning to work. This category consisted of the following four subcategories: meaning of return to work, expectations, information and Perceived health state.
Meaning of return to work Cancer survivors perceive return to work as a means of repairing damaged identity, achieving mental stability, financial security and escape from social isolation.

On the other hand, the participants declared that during the treatments, healthcare personnel include doctors and nurses had not provided them with much information about disease and returning to work. They stated that the personnel were more focused on the disease rather than their occupational roles.
“They didn’t say anything about my ability, my interests and preferences for returning to work” (p.3)
In contrast, the participants who had some information about their disease and returning to work including those survivors who were health staff and also those who had a similar experience with their friends or families were able to manage returning to work successfully.
“I knew and my doctor said that I shouldn’t put myself under pressure and that stressful environments were bad for me, so I asked for workplace replacement” (p. 8).
