Reverend Jesse Jackson’s speech is a day I will never forget. One of my favorite quotes that Jackson stated was, “We must learn to build bridges, not walls.” What that means is that the people in today’s society have a tendency to hold people back or to separate themselves from others. We should all be building each other up not tearing down. Jackson also said, “We must move forward with hope not backwards with fear.” In the world today we have taken a couple of steps back. If we all could all put aside our differences and focus on making this world better to live in then maybe we would be taking steps forward and not back.
