The author's purpose is to persuade the reader to believe that we should treat “non-human organisms” like humans and to give them simple rights as to those of humans. He supports his idea of treating these animals like humans by providing examples and experiences. He also uses pathos to support his idea and persuade the reader. In the 7th paragraph the author says that Hiasl and his sanctuary face homelessness so he’s using pathos to try to get the reader to feel for the apes. The author tries to get us to agree with the idea of treating animals like humans and no so much as animals.
