PLASTICITY The human brain is a complex system made up of billions of neurons that transmit and store information. Neurons form connections and are stimulated by our environment. They continue to form and create vast systems of communication that support complex abilities and skills. Brain development can be compared to molding clay as the brain is not fixed but plastic and ever changing. After reading chapters of The Brain's Way of Healing I was able to understand to a certain degree our brains secrets. Every single thing that people do, every aspect of our behavior is carried out by the brain. Such as hitting a baseball, painting, sleeping to the most creative aspects of imagination. Parkinson's disease is a degeneration of the neurons in the brain. Particularly a part of the brain called the substantia nigra. These neurons die and do not produce dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that signals the body to move smoothly. Without dopamine the individual will get tremors, rigidity and shaking. The digestive system is impacted as well because it requires muscle control. Along with Parkinson's disease unfortunately there is also an emotional component. It is very overwhelming for the person.
