After the Declaration of Independence published in July 4th 1776 by Thomas Jefferson, America officially declared separation from Britain to defend their race. In the last year of the Revolutionary War, Treaty of Paris was posed and signed by America and the Britain in 1783 claiming independence of America both substantially and politically from Britain. Property owning was a significant part mentioned in article seven of Treaty of Paris presented as, "Brittanic Majesty shall withdraw all from the said United States"(Document C) that chased out all of the British from all American continents as well as making sure "all belonging to be delivered to the proper states and persons to whom they belong"(Document C). In November 1775, Lord Dunmore from Virginia guaranteed freedom to slaves who would serve in the army to fight against the British soldiers, which was an offer that all slaves desired to have. Pennsylvania Constitution of 1776 abandoned property requirements for voting that gave all adult men who paid taxes rights to vote. Similar proposals about freedom and equality were seen in many states' constitutions. Just as Gordon S. Wood demonstrated in The Radicalism of the American Revolution, "The 'Spirit of Equality' is spread over all Americans and brought 'democratic dignity' to even 'the arm that wields a pick or drives a spike' "(Document E).
