Rex Walls is a very inelligent man, he is skilled in engineering and electrician because of this no matter where the family moves he can find a job. He loves his family and dreams to make the family rich by buliding "the Glass Castle." The novel states "all of dads engineering skills and mathematical genius were coming together in one special project, great big house he was going to build for us in the desert." Rex also has a drinking problem, he also fears he being followed by the FBI.
