On July 4th, 1852 Fredrick Douglas was asked by the Ladies Anti-Slavery Society of Rochester to deliver a speech on National Independence and Liberty. The most powerful statement in “The Hypocrisy of the Nation Must Be Exposed” by Frederick Douglas is “There is not a nation of the earth guilty of practices more shocking and bloody than are the people of these United States at this very hour”(Douglas). During this speech, Douglas uses many rhetorical questions to get his audience's attention to his words, but that is not needed here. This statement is so powerful that it doesn’t need a question mark to emphasize the meaning.
