Rhetorical Analysis Of David Muir

According to rhetorical analysis, Kairos refers to the appropriate time to say or do the appropriate thing within our writing. Therefore, how the media uses Kairos has a tremendous impact on how society views the news. My group was assigned to watch a news video from ABC’s World News with David Muir in regards to a recent protest at U.C. Berkley’s campus. The main purpose of the news cast is to inform the general public of the events that took place at U.C Berkley in regards to a controversial speaker named Milo Yinnapolis. To a degree, I believe the network was mainly shedding light on their concern for protests becoming violent, which only creates unnecessary fear among society.

Overall, David Muir is influencing the reaction and validity of the claims being made. On the other hand, the news cast presents pathos through numerous graphic images and video content of violent protestors, resulting in the action of the police. At the very beginning of the news cast, the news reporters present a graphic showing a fire and the police standing by fully armed while monitoring the crowd. As the video continues the reporters create a sense of pathos when they begin to show video content of the protestors tearing down metal barricades, jumping on cars, and throwing fireworks.
On the other hand, whenever the network brought images of Milo to our attention, they specifically refer to Milo’s comment that he made during one of his speeches stating “I happen to believe that hate crimes aren’t really a thing”. The news anchors create a sense of pathos here in reflection to Milo’s statement causing anger among some groups of viewers who are specifically targeted for hate crimes. The video that is shown of Milo during one of his speeches, he is fairly well dressed, making viewers believe that he is a creditable
