Everyone has a creative side to them whether they show it through creating art pieces or sports. Some may not even recognize their creative side. Dual Credit Composition has given me a place to express my creative side that I was not aware I had. Throughout elementary school, I always had a knack for creating stories, but I never thought that it would carry into my older years. During American Studies, my junior year, I lacked the motivation that I had this year, to write papers. My senior year brought a new person who enjoyed writing papers more than she ever did. I titled my essay “Messages Sent from Above” writing a five-hundred-word essay on the love my late grandmothers continue to show me through the messages they send me. Once I found my topic, each word became a stroke of a paintbrush, creating a piece of art that showed who I was on the inside. I used my words to create a piece that expressed my identity the way artists do through their paintings. Around the middle of the school year, we began writing our Rhetorical Analysis. Our rhetorical analysis was based on a commencement speech given by both Jason Reynolds and Steve Jobs in two different settings. I chose this essay to show the complete writing process because I had a very detailed writing process to go along with the paper. Do not let that fool you, because I would not consider this paper to be anything near a masterpiece. This paper focused a lot on emotions, such as ethos, pathos, and logos. I had to focus on words that would express true emotion, just as an artist does when selecting colors from a palette to bring meaning to their paintings.
