The campaign’s determination is to spread awareness about women’s rights, and to ask men to make a pledge in becoming more active about women’s rights. In her speech, Watson calls out males saying that she, “would like to take this opportunity to extend [their] formal invitation. Gender equality is [their] issue too” (Watson). Watson gave the speech and was successful in showing the awareness of the campaign and explaining that gender equality is an issue for both women and men, alike.

More specifically she refers to the common relation of feminism with “man-hating.” Watson explains to the audience that, “The belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes” (Watson). She wants to change this common misconception because she wants everyone to see that feminism is not only an issue for women, but an issue that effects women and men as a whole. She does this by addressing that the ambition behind feminism, not just the word, is what is more important. Overall, Emma Watson is successful in gaining support for her cause. Not only does she use her fame to rally support and gain attention, she is well educated in her ways of explaining not only the overall idea of “feminism”, but how it needs to involve both sexes in order to be successful; something I believe many before for her have failed to
