Love is so complex that all humans can do is attempt to explain it. Ackerman tries to express it by giving examples of how to show an explanation, all while using rhetorical appeals. Ackerman expresses her feelings about why love has impacted history. She gains and uses out trust through the facts and information she portrays to the audience. She cites her evidence as “Love. What a small word we use for an idea so immense and powerful it has altered the flow of history” (Ackerman 164). She uses the rhetorical appeal of ethos as she grabs the reader's’ attention and spews out her feelings.
