Race. Ethnicity. Religion. There is no discrimination in sports. Many athletes have been discriminated while playing sports. Viewers at home may think that Nike’s “Equality” ad is selfish since it is based on athletes of color. Most people who view this ad claim that the ad is hypocritical and so is Nike. “Viewers have accused Nike of having double standards by saying the factory workers producing the sports goods giant's products work in 'sweatshops' for 'low wage’” says Gareth Davies from Daily Mail. Nike attempts to persuade all athletes by preaching equality and applying to consumers’ need to achieve and need to escape. Moreover, this ad helps viewers by promoting a powerful positive message such as the importance of equality and how it can help you through sports. The ad is filmed in black and white and shows an aerial view of a basketball court. The narrator starts of saying “is this the land history promised.” The music in the background is a very soothing and calm melody. Nike persuades consumers to buy their products so they can achieve more wearing it. In the ad it shows many people wearing Nike and playing sports. The famous athletes are also wearing Nike products so the consumer can think, “maybe I can become like them”. The company used this appeal to help get kids off the streets and on to a court or field.
