We must first start by asking ourselves what exactly “The Rhetorical Situation” is. Bitzer Defines it as“a complex of persons, events, objects and relations presenting an actual or potential exigence which can be completely or partially removed if discourse, introduced into the situation, can so constrain human decision or action as to bring about the significant modification of the exigence”. Human beings are going to react and or try and change something because of a problem, we have always reacted to things that prove to be problematic it’s in our genetic makeup. Now let's take a look at the components of a “Rhetorical Situation”. I was able to pinpoint and address three components and those are exigence, audience and constraints. The final component constraint is simply implying that you need to be aware that certain factors and limitations may affect your arguments and your audience may go back and forth with certain viewpoints. Ways to avoid this may be that you always go over your material and make sure you're making extremely good points. So we have came to the conclusion that without following these three components one can simply not have a rhetoric speech. A great example would be Martin Luther King Jr, he was brave enough to address an issue that had been problematic in the country for many years. His audience was in full support and would do whatever they could to solve the issue. He faced many constraints and somehow always came out stronger. Next time you are watching a presidential address or any other form of speech go over the three components and analyze the material. What is there exigence, audience and what are there
