Ricardo Leyva Munoz Ramirez also known as Richard Ramirez was a serial killer, rapist, and burglar. Most of his crimes took place in Los Angeles and San Francicso during the time frame of June 1984 until his capture in August of 1985.
Ramirez was born in El Paso, Texas on February 29, 1960. He was the youngest of five children born to Julian and Mercedes Ramirez. Richard’s father was known to have been short tempered which resulted in physical abuse. When Richard was 12 years old, his older cousin Miguel Ramirez, shared stories and gruesome photos of his time in the Vietnam War. Miguel also shared photos of Vietnames women he had come in contact with and raped. Richard and his cousin both, would smoke marijuana as they would discuss all of past events in Miguel’s life. During their conversations, Miguel would teach Richard military skills, including killing with stealth. The influence Miguel had on Richard would lead him to sexual fantasies with women including violence and rape, during his adolescent years.…show more content… He would use room keys to rob and rape sleeping guests. On April 10, 1984, a nine year old girl was found murdered in a hotel basement, that Ramirez had been living in to be exact, in San Francisco, California. The girl had been molested, beaten, and stabbed to death. The death of 9 year old, Mei Lung is known as Richard Ramirez’s first known killing. He was not connected to the murder until 2009 when his DNA was matched with the evidence taken from the crime scene.
