Muggsy was born on January 9, 1965 in Baltimore, Maryland. His parents were Richard and Flaine Bogues, he had 2 brothers and 1 sister. Muggsy grew up being the youngest in his family and played basketball with his childhood friends Reggie Williams and David Wingate that later went off to be NBA players. Later on he attended Baltimore Southern High where he led his team to #1 in the United States. He was even voted the most valuable player on his team even if he was on a team with future NBA players. After those achievements and scouted by many colleges he enrolled at Wake Forest University. At Wake Forest he played point guard and and ranked in the top 10 nationally. He later graduated with a BA degree in Atlantic Coast Conference.
