According to Rodriguez, in summary, abolition looks like a world without criminal legal systems and police. Not just a change in the system, but a complete removal of the system as a whole. In regards to criminal legal systems, Rodriguez says, “The point is to disrupt what is because what is is so full of atrocity and horror and misery.” that it must be abolished (Love Intersections 47:15-47:30). Abolition to Rodriguez also is a society where people are not defined by their worst mistakes and are given access to resources like food, water and shelter needed to live. Rodriguez emphasizes that abolition is not just about abolishing the criminal legal system, but it is about creating a new system where everyone is treated fairly and can thrive.
